Pepto Bismol doesn’t work. Oh, it works for the short term, but when it comes to actually helping with the ailment effecting your stomach, it doesn’t. In fact, if something like an ulcer is secretly causing the problem, over the counter medications can make them worst. What you need are alternative remedies that are gentle on the stomach, and won’t cause added issues.

If you are feeling nauseous, try some peppermint or chamomile tea. Both have herbs that coat and settle the stomach, and are especially good for acids and gases that can cause vomiting.

If you have heartburn, try some apple cider vinegar. This miracle substance will coat the throat and stomach lining, and can oprevent chronic heartburn that may be caused by acid reflux.

For bloating and cramps, especially if caused by menstruation, try angelica root. You can easily make it into a tea, or take some in honey. It also eases indigestion, which can cause several different issues like flatulence.

Ginger is also great for nearly any stomach problem. For pregnant women it has especially been found beneficial to eat ginger biscuits, or drink ginger ale or tea to help with morning sickness, one of the most common complaints in the first trimester.
